London 12.04.05 | Today I have received a message from Georgina Pol Borras from Spain's Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism with a brief explanation about the nature and use of the chemical warfare agents sold to Venezuela in the first semester of 2004, as reported by Europa Press.
To the question "could you please explain the nature, use and type of the €30.374 worth of chemical and/or biological agents sold to Venezuela in the first semester of 2004?" Ms Pol Borras replied the following:

La exportación por 30.374 euros a Venezuela en el primer semestre de 2004 corresponde a gas CS para la fabricación de artificios lacrimógenos (el gas es cargado en botes en una planta en Venezuela). El uso es como equipos antidisturbios.
The €30.374 worth of exports to Venezuela in the first semester of 2004 consisted of CS (chlorobenzylidene malonitrile) gas used to produce tear devices (the gas gets compressed into containers in a facility in Venezuela). It is used to control riots.
