Hugo Chavez and the assassination plots of the USA

21.02.05 | According to an Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) study, with a homicide rate of 33 per 100,000 inhabitants, Venezuela ranked sixth in Latin America for violent crime (El Universal 22 Oct. 2003) in 2003. According to nationmater.com, Venezuela currently has the 4th highest murder rate in the world. To compare with past statistics, from 1990 to 2000 about 23,000 Venezuelans reportedly died from violent crime, while figures from 1999 to 2003 noted that approximately 43,000 persons had been killed (El Universal 22 Oct. 2003). These facts show the truth of Chavez’s revolution: that his message of hate and division and his overt and covert support for the use of violence has resulted in thousands more Venezuelan’s dying violently than would have been the case if Venezuela had had a truly responsible government during the last six years.
To all of you non-Venezuelans who think that Chavez is some kind of a 21st Century Zorro fighting for the poor I say pull your head out of the sand and study the reality of the country. Despite his rhetoric and all-time high oil revenues, home construction has fallen from an average of 60,000 a year in the decade before Chavez took office to less than an average of 10,000 a year during Chavez’s tenure. Corruption has increased dramatically as the rule of law has withered.
The facts speak clearly to anyone willing to listen. Chavez is an abysmal failure as a president, successful only through his ability to rabble rouse. Eventfully, most of those who support him will realize this and chase him out of office. But probably at the price of a terrible bloodbath. His revolutionary vanguard, well protected and backed by Cuban intelligence, will not give up their privileges without a fight.
The portents are not good for Venezuela. The atonement will be savage and true progress will be delayed for a generation. By then, oil will be practically worthless. The blame for this should fall squarely where it belongs: on the shoulders of Hugo Chavez. Unfortunately, he will probably escape to Cuba where he will live in luxury and write a book which will become a “must read” for useful idiots around the world.
