Violence targets journalists in Venezuela's capital
Update from El Universal
People who identified themselves as President Hugo Chávez' sympathizers attacked a foreign correspondent who was taking photographs as the group was preventing the setting up of an information and propaganda kiosk by opponents of the government in Plaza Bolívar, the main square in downtown Caracas.
Eduard Jiménez, a Spanish photojournalist, was beaten by a woman as he was taking photos and then surrounded by a group of demonstrators who took him away.
The National Guard sent a contingent of troops to Plaza Bolívar.
Meanwhile, outside the Venezuelan Vice-presidency, also downtown Caracas, a group of 15 people, reportedly linked with pro-government leader Lina Ron, assaulted two TV channel Globovisión's technicians who were operating a microwaves equipment there.
The two workers were beaten and attacked with stones, pipes, and sticks, but no authority defended them, and a Globovisión´s vehicle was badly damaged.
